In September 2012, whilst out cycling with several friends, I was involved in a head-on collision with a 4x4 vehicle , resulting in me sustaining serious injuries,.

My chest and left shoulder area was ripped open, narrowly missing the carotid artery. Having been flipped high into the air and landing on the side of the road unable to move, I was in fear for my life, as were my friends as the blood flowed from my chest and neck. 

Following the arrival of the paramedics and their initial treatment I heard them call for the Air Ambulance, when told it may be 15 minutes, the paramedic responded with 'No it needs to be 10'. On hearing this I realised time was of the essence!

Yorkshire Air Ambulance attended landing in a nearby field and transported me to Sheffield Northern General. On arrival I was instantly met by the Surgeon and his support team. I was subsequently operated on, my injuries consisted of broken ribs, 60 stitches to my chest/neck, broken collar bone, broken hand, along with further stitches to my left leg and various cuts n bruises. I was to remain in hospital receiving treatment for 10 days.

Since that time I've made a full recovery and have become aware that Yorkshire Air Ambulance are a charity and as such need funding to be able to keep operating.

It is my belief that without their prompt attendance to the scene of the collision I may not of been here to relay this story. In addition to their help I would also thank the paramedic who strapped me up at the scene,  my cycling friends who helped in various ways at the scene, but in particular, Chris Green, who was beside me throughout getting his arms and body covered in blood as he tried to stem its flow from my wounds.

In doing the challenge of cycling around 1,000 miles from one end of the country to the other with friends, Garry and Dave Ward from Doncaster Wheelers and Dennis Martin from Cycle Supreme (plus Nick the support driver) I would like to take the opportunity of Raising money via this site for Yorkshire Air Ambulance for what they did for me in 2012 and for 100's of others like me.

This will help to sustain them with the fantastic work that they do, as well as motivating me to complete the challenge.
