Story
So it's all over. After four months of training I've logged over 400 miles, I'm two stone lighter and managed to get round despite the heat and my dodgy old man's leg in 4hrs 11 minutes. I finished in 11,651st place out of 35,643 starters and even managed to beat former Olympic gold medal winner by 22 seconds!
It has been in aid of a great cause. Some of you will be aware that my mum suffered a serious spinal injury about eighteen months ago that has left her paralysed. For someone who is very independent with an active and creative mind, this has been a dramatic life changing event, which quite naturally has been difficult to come to terms with. The path to rehabilitation with spinal injury is very slow but we remain hopeful that one day she may get back to doing the things that many of us take for granted.
Over 700 people suffer spinal cord injury every year and INSPIRE funds research projects which are designed to lead to an improvement in the quality of life for those living with spinal cord injury. INSPIRE have been funding a research project at the Pain Research Institute in Liverpool which my mum has been participating in. INSPIRE is a very small charity so the money really does mean a lot to them and as I have my own 'ballot' place in the marathon every penny raised goes straight to them and not to pay for my place in the marathon.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure - the charity gets the money quicker and saves on admin costs making it a really efficient way to donate. So please dig deep and donate what you can.
Thank you very much in advance.
