Robert Collins World Transplant Games Malaga 2017

World Transplant Games Malaga Spain 2017 · 25 June 2017 to 2 July 2017 ·
Thank you so much for helping me reach my target and for my dream of competing for my country coming true. I will do my best to compete for you all to become a medal winner but most off all be able to celebrate my gift of life with my sister and family.
I am proud to represent my country at the World Transplant Games, Malaga in June 2017. Your support has helped me achieve my ambition.
During my 13 years I have had over 25 operation but my transplant has given me the opportunity for a new life.
I was born with Kidney Failure at Luton and Dunstable Hospital in Bedfordshire. I was very poorly and hospital stays were normal for me. Luckily my Uncle, despite having a young family of his own, offered to donate his kidney and on 11th August 2009 I had a kidney transplant.
Whilst having my transplant I learned for the first time about the British Transplant Games. The British Transplant Games aims to encourage transplant patients to regain fitness and confidence by celebrating life. They also promote friendship and co-operation between individuals concerned with transplantation, whilst increasing public awareness of the value of organ donation and honouring the transplant recipients,
donors and donor families. I am a member of the Great Ormond Street Hospital Renal Team and have attended the British Transplant Games for the last seven years. I have competed at a number of events and won numerous medals. I have been the defending Badminton gold medallist for the last five years.
This year I had an exciting email. I have been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Transplant Games in Malaga 2017, competing in badminton and table tennis.
I am raising funds to cover my expenses associated with attending the World Transplant Games in Malaga Spain. Mum, Dad and Harriet want to come too to watch me fulfil my dream. All the monies I raise will pay for flights, accommodation, kit, insurance, training and administration. Any surplus funds will go towards the Transplant Sport UK Management Team (including physios and coaches) who give up their time to support the team.
I am taking part to raise awareness of the NHS Organ Donor Register and transplantation. Register onto the NHS ODR by calling 0300 123 23 23 or by logging onto www.organdonation.nhs.uk
