Roberto vs. 100km. For Princess Alexandra Hospital Breast Unit · 14 December 2020
Roberto from The Chequers in Matching Green is cycling 100km around the Green in costume in support of Princess Alexandra Hospital’s Breast Unit.
Whilst the likes of Captain Tom Moore have raised millions for the NHS, smaller charities such as the breast cancer unit run by Dr. Ashraf Patel which support women in the aftercare stages of breast cancer have seen a 95% reduction in donations.
In any ordinary year we would run three charity balls at The Chequers raising more than a hundred thousand pounds for the much needed care. With the pub being closed and under restrictions this year we have been unable to raise money as we normally would.
That’s why I will be cycling 100km around the green in costume from Monday 14 December. Which for any fitness fanatics is no mean feat considering I normally cycle to Cammas Hall farm for a bacon sandwich and back (5km).
Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated for what is an absolutely excellent cause helping the recovery of countless women in the local area, including multiple friends, and my own mum.
If you can’t donate (and especially if you can) please join me everyday at 9am outside the pub from Monday 14th of December until I complete 100 laps of the green - however many days it takes !
I will let you know what I am wearing each day. If we reach my target I will do the final 10km in my Speedos.
Thank you.
Roberto.
