Story
Julian completed the Marathon on a relentlessly rainy Sunday in Berlin in 3 hours, 42 minutes and 42 seconds - a new personal record. Well done!
A BIG thank you to everyone who generously donated money, supporting Julian and the Wanda Bakery. We are hugely grateful!
Details of how the money will be spent will be sent shortly but in the meantime, please take a look at the updated photos to the left and here's a link to the Berlin Marathon website with Julian's finishing time and videos of him on the run in the rain:

Wanda Bread, The Bakery, Kigali, Rwanda
Team Roberts is running and raising money to support Wanda Bread – a courageous little bakery that’s making a stand against adverse poverty.Julian and and his sister Chloe are collaborating to raise much needed funds. Jools, being a keen runner is defying good sense by running the Berlin Marathon on 26 September 2010! This foolhardy commitment has been made possible by Network 4 Africa, whose immense charity work Chloe has been a supporter of for a number of years.
Two years ago Chloe was privileged enough to join Network 4 Africa on a volunteer trip to meet and help raise money for a group of enterprising and ambitious women who wanted to create a business out of nothing.Chloe learnt about this brave cooperative that consisted of women and girls who are either widows or orphans (as a result of the 1994 genocide) living in severe poverty, facing personal burdens such as HIV and unplanned pregnancies through rape.
To survive their destitution, the women have become economically self-sufficient by starting a small business, a bakery called Wanda Bread. With the help of N4A, the women wrote a business plan, elected a committee to oversee the running of the business and learnt how to bake. They make a variety of breads in their wood fired oven, including chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon buns and cheese muffins. They sell their produce every Thursday evening at the British Embassy’s weekly drinks party, as well as local supermarkets, and plan to build up regular orders with local restaurants, cafes and shops.
In just over 2 months Wanda Bread has made over £100 ($160) profit – a huge total by local standards, and a great achievement. However, the women still need our help to make the business sustainable, successful and to ‘scale up’. They would like to rent a space that will become the permanent bakery and eventually a small coffee shop. They are also keen to cater for local Rwandese tastes, with traditional breads and cakes. Please join us and make Jool's efforts worthwhile by donating what you can to support Wanda Bakery, ensuring it's success and by doing so changing these women's and children's lives. Many thanks! Jools & Chloe xx
