Thank you for visiting my “JustGiving” site! At a time when we all receive so many requests for sponsorship – the vast majority of which are for very worthwhile causes I am appreciative that you are here!
You will be aware of the reasons behind my request for sponsorship from my earlier email or letter.
I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to Professor Peter Friend and his Team at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford for their dedication to their work and research in treating this terrifying disease, pancreatic cancer. I would also like to thank Dr Weaver and the Oncology Team at High Wycombe whose care, concern, general empathy and post-operative care are a real credit, and a significant part of the journey to recovery.
From my own perspective what I found the most difficult to understand and deal with was the ‘jaundice’ (which inevitably precedes diagnosis.) Apart from the pain and discomfort, I struggled to see someone hospitalised (for almost as long as they are in care after the operation) simply to make them well enough to undergo major surgery. In Vivien’s own words on the day of the operation “I feel so much better that I keep thinking that they will tell me it is a mistake, and I do not need an operation” No such luck!
I have spent much of my life setting targets, and then with the help of Others “reaching them” with various degrees of success. I have spent considerably less of my life walking - again with various degrees of success – which hopefully I can now put to some worthwhile cause? I shall be walking the “Coast to Coast” route, some 200 miles from St. Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hoods Bay in North Yorkshire in early October. There is no doubt in my mind that whatever amount of money however large or small I am able to raise it will be a success and go someway towards improving those frightening statistics. Thank you again for visiting my page, and thank you in anticipation of your sponsorship, every penny will be appreciated.
Kind Regards Robin
Since setting up this page on 7th September, the walk has been successfully completed - finishing on Friday 21st October. I would like to thank everyone for their sponsorships and messages of support which have been absolutely fantastic.
I would also like to thank David Tanner, Dean Warrillow, Robert Freeman and Brett Hindson for their support by walking various sections of the "trail", as well the additional sponsorships which are attributable to their efforts. Special thanks to Mike Smith who while unable to join us on the "trail" provided some brilliant back up by moving bags from base to base during the second week.
What a Team - renewed thanks to everyone! While the total will go well past £12K - we finished having raised £11,007. Thank you!!
