Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
You may remember back in 2009, nine celebrities, including Gary Barlow, Ronan Keating, Chris Moyles, Ben Shephard, Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh, Fearne Cotton, Alesha Dixon and Denise Van Outen scaled Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Comic Relief?
Well, I hope to emulate this challenge and trek to the summit of Africa's highest mountain to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK.
In all likelihood, this will involve considerably less glamour, fewer devoted Heat magazine pages...and marginally less ego. Nevertheless I will be putting my fitness on the line on June 9th 2012 to climb the Machame Route (Whiskey Route), a tough, six day hike to the summit of Kilimanjaro, nearly 6,000m above sea level. I shall hopefully be posting a blog as I go to keep you all updated as to how my creaky knees and altitude sickness are bearing up.
Over the past few months cancer has sadly taken the lives of two close family friends: Helen Reynolds of Brynmill, Swansea and Brendan Minney of Penmaen, Swansea.
I have been left shocked at how sudden and devastating this disease can be and I look to complete this challenge in their memory as well as for those who have lost their battle and those who are currently suffering from cancer.
