Story
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page. Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men. Over 11,000 men die every year in the UK and the number increases every year. The Mission of PCRC is to develop new therapy for men with advanced prostate cancer. The immediate goal is to increase survival and their vision is a cure for the disease. Every pound raised will help PCRC achieve their vision.
I am cycling from my home near Exeter to Fratton Park in Portsmouth, the home of Pompey, the football club that I support. I aim to arrive on Saturday February 1st in time to watch Pompey play Sunderland. It's about 130 miles from my home to Fratton Park. Every day 130 men on average are diagnosed with prostate cancer. So every mile I cycle will represent one of those men. When I arrive at Fratton Park on 1st February I will join with 18000 other football supporters, most of whom will be men. And some of us at that match at some point in the future are going to be told that we have prostate cancer. I hope we all enjoy the match - I certainly will knowing that my tortuous cycle ride is over and because I will be glad that my effort has in some small way helped towards preventing this disease. Play Up Pompey!
