Story

On Saturday 1st July myself and seven eager colleagues will take on the challenge of the ‘Yorkshire Dales Mighty Hike’.

Our team from Experian EITS, Service Delivery, will be putting their best foot forward to pull together to complete the challenge, walking a half marathon to raise funds for Macmillan!

As well as putting the team through their paces, the challenge is a great opportunity to give something back to a cause that is close to a number of us, some of our stories below:

My story: I’m doing this walk in the memory of a good friend that lost their fight with cancer a couple of years ago. They fought and won once…but then it came back and defeated her after spreading throughout her body. I know how much help and support Macmillan provide to people in need so wanted to give something back.

Kerry's Story: Cancer has affected many of my family and friends in different ways, the one that impacted me personally the most was my beautiful mum Barbara. In late July 2018 my dear mum was diagnosed in the advanced stages of esophageal cancer, we were given the devastating news that the cancer had spread leaving it inoperable, mum lost her brave battle just 7 weeks later on the 12th September 2018. Cancer impacts many people in many ways, any opportunity to raise money is a worthwhile one. My mum would have loved the fact I will be taking on this challenge with my team and would have been my biggest cheerleader – so any donation would be gratefully received!

Toby’s story:  I’m walking for all the friends and family I have who have been impacted by cancer, and walking for all those who we’ve lost. Most importantly, I’m walking for Macmillan after seeing first-hand the great support they gave to one of the strongest women I know as she finally lost her fight with cancer a few years back. This one’s for you Jackie.

John’s story: I'm doing this for my  friend Dave Turton, who I've known for over 40 years, who was diagnosed with terminal Liver Melanoma last year. It’s been a massive impact on him and his family and how he deals with this is nothing short of heroic, when each 3 month scan could indicate how little time he has. Causes like this help in this situation for his emotional wellbeing at this awful time and I’m  looking forward to raising money for Macmillan in his honour
