Meningitis is caused by either a viral or bacterial infection which causes ‘inflammation of the lining around your brain and spinal cord’ and is most common in babies, young children, teenagers and young adults. If left untreated it can cause life threatening blood poisoning and can cause permanent damage to the brain or nerves. 1 in 10 people who get Bacterial Meningitis die & 1 in 5 have serious complications.

I am running for Meningitis Research Foundation because in March 2022 my best friend lost her 19 year old sister, Mia Daisy, to Bacterial Meningitis after just 3 days in hospital. Mia still had the rest of her life ahead of her yet it was taken away by an illness that started with a sore throat and aches & pains. This very quickly led to her being hospitalised where she later died with her family around her. The money raised will go towards continuing to fight this heartbreaking illness.
