The 2.6 Challenge is a simple and fun way for everyone to do their bit to help save the UKs charities.

Story

More than half the children in some parts of the UK start school with a communication difficulty and are likely to struggle with talking, understanding, learning and making friends. I CAN is a UK charity supporting children so that they have the communication skills they need. Its mission is that no child should be left out or left behind because of a difficulty speaking or understanding.

Like most charities I CAN’s fundraising will take a big hit this year following the COVID 19 pandemic. They estimate that their fundraising income will decrease by at least £350,000.

Lottie says: “Please sponsor me not to talk for 26 hours! (From 5PM 30/4/20 to 7PM 1/5/20) It’s going to be really hard for me as I usually have a lot to say but the children I CAN helps can’t talk (or understand) for much longer than just a few hours. I’d like to help them as my Mum is a Speech & Language Therapist and says it’s very frustrating for children with communication difficulties and often makes them sad. I have thought of some ways to help me communicate whilst I’m not talking like signing, using pictures and a text to speech app. I think my Mum, Dad and sister are going to need to be very patient with me during my challenge!”

Love from Lottie, aged 10. x
