A ridiculously challenging off road southern counties coast to coast ride.

Taking a 525 mile route that avoids roads as far as possible, I am celebrating my 70th with a fundraising ride from Lands End to the North Foreland Lighthouse near Broadstairs, on the easternmost tip of Kent.

Many of you will recall my past biking exploits, a painful annual round of sweating my way slowly from London to Istanbul, taking in some particularly hostile mountain ranges on the way. Well I did actually get there, somehow, after which I hung up my padded shorts with the thought that I had done my bit for this lifetime.

That was all well before I bought myself a full suspension e-mountain bike to make the most of exploring the Surrey Hills where I now live. Slowly, the idea of a new sort of senior bike challenge coagulated in my mind, and has now become an imminent reality! Aided and abetted by my trusty (and scarily fit) biking neighbour Rob Dunn, we have a route and a date in the diary: 19th August.

I’m aiming to make a LOT of money for Yes to Life from this a) because the charity urgently needs the funds and b) this isn’t going to be a walk in the park, so I need to milk it for every penny I can get!
