I've been working at the Rainforest Foundation UK since October 2018 and have had the opportunity to witness the impressive and important work that the organisation is doing. RFUK works to improve the land rights of forest and indigenous communities, challenge logging companies, empower forest people to defend their lands and works towards the sustainable use of forest resources. 

My own work at RFUK involves the development and deployment of a real-time, community-based monitoring tool called ForestLink. Connecting forest and indigenous communities with national law enforcement, ForestLink aims to reduce illegal forest activities whilst also empowering forest communities to have more control over their lands. In the face of climate change and increasing pressure on land and resources, it is crucial to ensure that forests are protected, but also that the people living within them are central to conservation projects.

Throughout the past year I've had the chance to meet and work with such passionate and dedicated people both in RFUK's London office and in partner organisations in Central and Western Africa. Running the London marathon to raise money for an organisation that I love and am passionate about, and that has helped indigenous and forest communities protect more than 12 million hectares of rainforest, seems like the perfect way for me to give back.
