The Rocky Mountain Team is a Colorado based team of Peakers who fundraise for Bloodwise while enjoying the Colorado outdoors.
We have all been touched by cancer in some way. Family members and friends lost or fighting. I personally became interested in fundraising for Bloodwise after participating in the first MPC 2015. It was in response to the loss of a child we knew in 2013. Callie was 3 and diagnosed with leukemia on September 24, 2013. She lost her fight 6 weeks later on November 4, 2013. She was a wonderful little girl and the loss was hard. My shoelaces on my running shoes and hikers are purple which was Callie's favorite color.
In 2016 I asked my sister Daya Straub-Tazz to join me in putting together activities as fundraisers for Bloodwise. Taking action by doing something positive helps when dealing with a loss and our group has continued to grow with others wanting to do something positive as well. We recruited other Peakers, friends and family to join by organizing events. The team organizes hikes and snow shoeing outings in the Colorado mountains, a Burns Supper in January and even climbed Torrys Peak, a Colorado 14er, in August 2017. We have currently raised $ 2,167.00 through our various events in 2017.
Daya Straub-Tazz and I organized a team for the Denver Run Colfax Marathon in 2017 with Bloodwise as our Charity Partner. Denver Run Colfax 2018 will be our second year with members currently registered in 5K and Relay Team races. The 2018 Run Colfax team members are Shannon Sutton, Daya Straub-Tazz, Jennifer Rasmussen, Hank Rasmussen the Dog, Luann DeCurnou-Goode, Beatriz Castenada, Caitlin Sutton, Karen Malia, and Brian Ditta. We hope more will join us in May 2018 for Denver Run Colfax Marathon to help support Bloodwise
