Not long after my daughter Erika was born she was diagnosed with a congneital PDA (patent ductus arteriosus) in her heart. The following September developed signs of advanced heart failure and had to undergo emergency surgery to seal a missing heart valve at Yorkhill Sick Kids hospital in Glasgow. During surgery one of her arteries burst and needed a life saving transfusion of red cells.

I'd like to run for Yorkhill Sick Kids hospital and raise some much needed funds to highlight the critical service they provide for children all over Scotland, but most importantly to say a big "Thank You" to all the staff who were involved in ensuring that Erika was able to celebrate her first birthday party on the 1st July.
