Story
Thank you for visiting my fund raising page.
I am in training for a The Great Birmingham Run and half marathon event in aid of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Alzheimer’s is one of the cruellest diseases known to man.
I have only run 21.1km twice in my life . It is has always been my dream to run a marathon yet it has been a challenge and struggle due to fitness, injuries, disciplined diet and training schedules. However memories are made of this.
Thank you for reading my story. I will be so grateful for any donation that will fund research, provide better care and support to those who live with dementia.
Kind regards and best wishes
Roger
I am doing this for my mother who was diagnosed with dementia 7 years ago at the age of 67. My mother has always been a strong, outgoing and very sociable person. Everyone would know “Judy” in the Chinese Community in Manchester and in my home town of Northwich.

It has taken the soul from the woman we love and left us a similar woman whom we are trying to stay close to. It’s both sad and heart breaking to see her slowly lose confidence to the point where she is afraid to think or make mistakes.
She always loved her gardening, having a good chat and a laugh on the phone. I think it was 4 years ago when she last cooked, burned the kitchen and lived an independent life. When her condition became too much of a struggle she moved to Hong Kong to be with family. Life was made easier with home help and carer but she always longed to come back to UK to live and see her grandchildren.

This is for you mum and 944,000 dementia sufferers in UK. I hope to make you proud! I would say a long run is nothing compared having years of dementia and being dependent on others.
