Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 25th September 2011, 75 cyclists will ride the 70 miles from Richmond Park in London to Langstone Bridge at Hayling Island. The challenging but beautiful route will take cyclists out of London through Richmond Park onto Esher and then Cobham. It will continue on to Guildford, Haslemere and Buriton before passing through Rowland’s Castle and Havant and then on to Hayling Island for a well-deserved celebratory finish!
| The funds raised will be going to HOPEHIV, which supports 50,000 children and young people in sub-Saharan Africa who have been orphaned or affected by HIV/AIDS. Living in poverty-stricken communities where a whole parental generation has been obliterated by AIDS, orphans and vulnerable children are often left to fend for themselves, many struggling with neglect and abuse, due to stigma, ignorance and poverty in the communities around them. Yet, based on experience over the last ten years, HOPEHIV believes that these young people have the determination and potential to turn the despair to hope, and change Africa’s future. |

A large part of the money raised will be used to buy bicycles for some of HOPEHIV’s projects. These bicycles will provide a vital mode of transport for many who are fulfilling key roles within these projects, meaning the education, psychosocial support, economic empowerment and child rights awareness they’re helping to provide will reach many more vulnerable children and young people. |
