Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge · 3 July 2015 to 4 July 2015 ·

We are Langley Trust. We help people with convictions to transform their lives – preventing crime, promoting rehabilitation, and reducing re-offending. As a Christian charity working across England, we believe everyone deserves another chance.

Story

We are hoping to raise £1000 to purchase fitness equipment for the residents at Tekoa House, to help them live a healthy lifestyle. In 2015 the staff team at Tekoa are working with residents to provide and educate residents in the benefit of living a healthy lifestyle. The fitness equipment would provide basic equipment to ensure they are physically fitter whilst addressing any issues they have their diet,  mental health, addiction issues and spiritually.

We are hoping to raise at least £1000 to purchase fitness equipment for the residents of Tekoa House. I am walking the 3 peaks walk on 4th July as well as walking to work (20 miles) on the 10th July to raise funds for the fitness equipment.

Tekoa House is a 37 bed hostel for homeless men.

Facilities: 12 shared bedrooms and 13 single bedrooms (3 of these are situated in a move –on unit which is situated on a separate floor with a self-catering kitchen area and separate lounge). There is a shared dining area, TV/games room and bathing facilities. Tekoa House offers full board catering arrangements and tea/coffee stations. There is also an outdoor relaxing garden area and a computer room to access the Langley Academy (training & education suite accredited by the Open College Network) as well as other educational courses and the facilities for job applications. The project has smoke detectors and a fire sprinkler system.

Eligibility: Men and women aged 18 years and over, offenders and those at risk of offending. Tekoa House receives Housing Benefit and rental income and no other source of income. People taking up places at Tekoa House need to be able to cope with Intensive Housing Management support only.

Staff will work closely with the local agencies such as Renaissance, Rochdale Homelessness Team and Rochdale Probation and many other external agencies to ensure that men and women at Tekoa House gain access to all local drug and alcohol intervention services and access to good quality move on accommodation. Tekoa can also provide a base from which these agencies will work from, helping men and women stabilise and improve their situation and life chances, to help them find move on accommodation and maintain their own tenancies. All residents are assigned a keyworker and there are also weekly facilitated life skills groups on site for residents to access. A range of activities including links to voluntary work are also provided. Langley House Trust is established on Christian principles and foundations but our services are for anyone – those with faith or indeed no faith. Tekoa House has an on-site chaplain who visits the project twice per week to support residents. Tekoa House work tenaciously to help change lives for the better.

Please support a very worthy cause and help us hit our £1000 target
