Suicide kills 19 people a day in the UK, but free, effective support is increasingly hard to access. We offer fortnightly 50-minute sessions with a carefully trained volunteer, allowing people to talk openly about their suicidal feelings in a welcoming and completely confidential setting.

Story

Hi all,

On 13 August we're going to attempt to swim the length of Lake Windermere. It's 11 miles in total - or roughly the distance from Hackney to Wimbledon. We're doing it for a great cause though. That and these quite punchy energy gels we've been given should hopefully get us over the line!

We've chosen The Listening Place as the charity we'd like to support. It's a wonderful UK based charity set up in 2016 which provides free, face-to-face support for those considering taking their own lives. It's a very personal cause for us both. Each day 18 people take their own lives in the UK. It's the major single cause of death of young men.

The Listening Place provides those who feel life is no longer worth living with a safe place to come and talk freely and confidentially to warm, non-judgemental volunteers who support them through their darkest times.

We're hoping to raise £10,000! Any and all support you could provide us would be massively appreciated.

In the meantime, we'll keep you updated with progress! And a huge shout out to our support kayakers - Gem and Hugo - who may have to be on the water with us for up to 7 hours. They'll no doubt help spur us along!

All our love,

Jake and Andrew
