Shave4Vesak is a Pal Buddhist School student-led initiative that invites us to conquer our fears and cut off their hindrances, greed, hatred and delusion. The shaving of hair symbolises the letting go of ego and sensual desires for external beauty, and embracing the realisation that it is our inner beauty that radiates foremost. Shave4Vesak also aims to visualise the Buddha's teaching of "Renunciation through Liberation." Far too many people in society hold on to the chains of placing excessive importance on something as temporary as their hair. As a result, they are the most vulnerable to the restrictive chains of sensual desire. Shave4Vesak helps individuals to let go of the chain of sensual desire and realise that external looks do not define a person.
