The Ayrshire Hospice - Kilimanjaro Trek 2010 · 19 March 2010 ·

Our charity cares for adults in Ayrshire and Arran with life-limiting illnesses. We help them live as actively as possible to the end of their lives, however long that may be. Hospice care is open to all. It’s free for patients but it’s not free to provide. So we need to raise over £4M each year.

Story

Dear All

A wee update on the trek itself....the weather was horrendous, rained every day with heavy snowfall on summit climb night (worst they had seen in years apparently). Despite being very fit and prepared for this and also the oldest in the group by at least 12 years I had to return to base after reaching 18000ft (target 20000ft) just 2000ft short, due to altitude problems!!

A very upset person I was but on a positive note achieved twice my target for the Hospice and sum raised at moment of just over £7000. 30% of our total group did not make it due to frostbite, exhaustion etc. It was a fantastic experience and the most demanding challenge I have taken on but worth it.

Your money is going to a great cause so even though I didn't make it to the very top a HUGE thank you to you all for your support and an extreme trek to get that far.

Thanks again,
Baboo (my Tanzanian name meaning Grandpa given to me by my guide and porters) aka Ronnie
