In May this year, we lost a close friend to bone cancer and Ben and I decided to run the Great North Run in memory of Nathan and also to raise funds for Bone Cancer Research Trust.
Nathan was a very popular, genuine friend to many people and his passing came as a great shock to everyone. He only had a short battle with cancer but put up an immense fight every single day, serving to be an inspiration to us all, including all of his teammates that had played rugby with him.
Nathan loved playing rugby as well as the gym and throughout his treatment, made the effort to come and support whoever was playing at Alnwick, whether it was the 1st team or his mates playing for the colts. This shows how much of a fighter he was, trying to live as normal a life as possible and not letting the disease hold him back.
It was an honour to know such a great guy and I will run every step with great pride knowing it is in memory of him.
