At the Hamlet, we provide support for children, young people and adults with disabilities and complex health needs in Norwich and across Norfolk. We believe our members deserve to be valued for who they are and by providing recreational, educational and social opportunities.

Story

Who would have thought I'd be doing a triathlon!

Hello my name is Rory and I am autistic. I’m doing a triathlon with the rest of my family for the Hamlet Centre Trust. It would be great if you could sponsor me!

The Hamlet Centre is a great place that means a lot to my family. It’s an organisation that offers lots of fun schemes as well as education opportunities for people with physical and learning disabilities. I go to the youth club there and summer scheme groups, and my sister Ellie is a volunteer. www.hamletcentre.org.uk

The triathlon is at Fritton lake, and we are doing it as a relay team. Ellie is doing the swim (1.5km) which is in Fritton lake, Mum and I are doing the cycle on the tandem (40km) and Dad is doing the run (10km). It’s going to be a huge challenge for us all!

Thanks to ActiveoOutdoorSport www.activeoutdoorsport.co.uk who are making an exception and allowing 4 in our team. They are also giving the Fairfeet free entry AND giving a perecentage of everyone else’s entry fee to the Hamlet. What lovely people - we are really grateful for their support!

And thank you to everyone who has supported or sponsored us already! We couldn’t have done it without you.

A message from Mum and Dad

Every day we are proud of Rory and what he has achieved despite his disabilities. We are fortunate to have had great support over the years from family and friends, and special people individuals at various playgroups and at outstanding schools - it has made a great difference.

Some of you may remember that back in 2003 (when Rory was “little") Uncle Bill and Auntie Marg and chums Mark, Caroline and Vicky completed the London triathlon to raise funding for the fantastic intervention programme we were running for Rory at that time. We watched as a family and were inspired by their determination and generosity. At that stage it was hard to imagine what Rory would be able to achieve. He surprises us all the time and we are so proud of him. It seems fitting that we can now "celebrate" as a family by taking part in a triathlon ourselves and hopefully raising a load of cash for the great work of the Hamlet centre.

Sure that Rory would want to say....

"Thanks for visiting my page and thanks for helping me raise money for Hamlet".
