Festive Sweets Cones · 4 December 2020

We collect and distribute emergency aid for refugees from war, oppression, natural disasters, climate change, and those being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, or membership of a particular social group or political opinion.

Story

It was heart-breaking to hear in the news, in October, about the Kurdish-Iranian family, including 3 children, who lost their lives in the Channel whilst attempting a perilous boat crossing as they were fearful about staying in Calais during the winter months. The desperation that drives people to take such a huge risk is so hard to imagine and weighs heavily on my mind.

My sons, William and Bobby, and I have been busy making and selling Festive Sweets Cones to people in our local area (in a Covid-safe way and involving contact-free collection) to raise money for a fab local charity, StAR (St Albans for Refugees). People have been kind and generous and we thank them very much for their support with our fundraising effort which continues. To date we have made 275 festive sweets cones and raised just over £500.

StAR collect and distribute emergency aid for refugees from war, oppression, natural disasters and climate change as well as supporting those granted refugee status living in our local area. The Covid pandemic and the uncertainty around Brexit are making the logistics and expense of delivering aid to refugees in France, Greece and Uganda even more difficult.

We would love to be able to give this charity a larger donation so if this issue also pulls at your heartstrings, we would be very grateful for any small contributions to our effort you feel you can make.

Thank you so much. We wish you all a Happy Christmas.

With love,

Rosie, William and Bobby
