Story

2021 saw me complete a 2.5 year project to be the first person ever to link The Paddy Buckley Round, The Denis Rankin Round, The Charlie Ramsey Round and the Bob Graham Round, in a continuous traverse, completing the 400km, 32,000m of height gain and 152 summits, in 4 different countries of The United Kingdom, in 6 days and 21 hours.

In the lead up and since I have had a Virgin Money Giving page running and so far I have raised a total of £9716.55 through that page but due to Virgin stopping their giving page, I am continuing this fundraising through Just Giving.  All donations on Virgin were split between CALM, Mountain Rescue and The Dogs Trust.  This page is purely for Calm.

I have told my story so many times now, in magazines and on podcasts, and I will try to update this page as and when I have new challenges and stories to tell.

The reason I am raising money for Calm is because I believe in what they are doing - I suffer from depression and PTSD and I know what it is like to be at the edge looking into the abyss.  If you are there and feel you cant talk to anyone, CALM are there.

Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide.  Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives. And 75% of all UK suicides are male.  CALM exists to change this by offering life saving services, provoking conversation and bringing people together to reject living miserably.  From advice on our site, through to free, confidential chats with our helpline staff, online or on the phone, we’re here for whoever needs us, every day. No matter what. £8 is enough to fund one potentially life-saving call.

2023:

(written 19/02/23)

This page was started in relation to my Big 4 at 40 challenge which I completed in June 2021. 2022 saw me trying a few things, however I was plagued with injury and had a few really deep lows.

I needed something new, another challenge - something to give me a focus and the drive to get strong and fit. I was thinking of all sorts of things which one day I might do but the one I settled on was the National Parks Ultra Project. This will involve running an ultra distance challenge route in each of the UK National Parks throughout the course of the year.

That is 15 ultras in 1 year!  In typical Rosco fashion, this has not started according to plan and the first ultra had to be postponed due to weather but I got under way with the Derwent Watershed in the Peak District on 30th January.  I completed the 66 km run in 8hrs 21 mins and 48 seconds which currently stands as the Fastest Known Time.

Next up was to be the Northumberland Coastal Route - a 100km path which hugs the coastline.  An FKT was going to be tough with the current record sitting at 9 hrs 28 mins, so I needed to be on form on the start line.  2 weeks before, I noticed a large and very swollen and painful lump in the lymph node in the groin.  This was not good news and after several blood tests and hospital appointments, I had to postpone the run.

As I write this, I don't know what is going to happen and no-one seems to know what is wrong - all I know is that I have a large hard lump and I cant run much and my Northumberland Coastal route FKT attempt is currently off the cards.

I have rejigged the year and it looks doable still if I can get back out on the next route in about 1 months time.  Typically for me, I have just made the challenge harder - it will be 14 ultras in about 9 months.

Give me some motivation and donate some money!
