Arctic 2021 · 2 March 2022 to 8 March 2022 ·

DEBRA Ireland provides support to all those living with EB. We receive no guaranteed funding, so we rely on the generosity of our supporters and fundraising campaigns in order to continue the level of support that we offer our patients. Without this support our services would cease to exist.

Story

We are two great friends who have decided to come together to take on the Arctic to raise much needed funds to support both care for those and the families of those suffering with EB and to fund research to treat EB.

As mother’s (we have 5 kids between us ranging from 7 months to 7 years old) this charity has really resonated with us both. An estimated 1 in 18000 babies born in Ireland are affected by EB ( Epidermolysis Bullosa) which is a distressing and painful genetic skin blistering condition which causes the skin to blister even at the most gentle of contact. In order to manage EB parents and caregivers spend 3 hours a day lancing the blisters and dressing the skin which is excruciating for the children and as you can imagine extremely upsetting for any parent. This condition has been described as the worst disease you have ever heard of!

In order to raise funds for this well deserving charity we have committed with a small group of approx. 15 brave souls to trek the arctic for 7 days in March 2022 which includes;

-Camping in -20c conditions,

No WiFi,

-No electricity

 -No running water ( we just keep telling each other it’ll be grand 😃)

If you have got this far we hope that you will make a donation no matter how small which will help make a difference to the lives of these children and their families.
