Skydive - Alexander Devine Children's Cancer Trust · 25 August 2008
Who
I'm looking for your financial support in raising funds for a charity in Berkshire, "Alexander Devine Children's Cancer Trust - Building a Children's Hospice Service for Berkshire". Alexander House will be a home from home environment providing respite and quality time for the whole family, palliative care, specialist respite care, 24 hour emergency care, advice and bereavement information and support for the family. In November 2001 Alexander Devine was diagnosed at just 4 years old with a rare brain tumour. He endured operations, treatments and chemotherapy in his four year fight against cancer, with exceptional courage and bravery, with great dignity and without complaint. He has taught so many so much.
Why
I've chosen this charity because, unbelievably for the size of the Royal County of Berkshire, there are no children's hospices at all! Your help and encouragement means a huge amount to me but it means even more to the Alexander Devine Children's Cancer Trust. Just take a look at their website and I hope you'll understand why I want to be fundraising for them. http://www.adcct.com/
How
By jumping out of a plane of course with a man strapped to my back (otherwise known as a Tandem Skydive)!! After flying to an altitude of up to 13,500 feet we will exit the aircraft immediately releasing a small parachute which effectively slows down the rate of descent, allowing a video cameraman to fly with me at the same speed, whilst filming the skydive. After flying through the air (freefall) at up to 120 mph for some 40 seconds the hunk on my back, AKA Instructor, will deploy the parachute at approx. 5,500 feet.
When & Where
The original date of Saturday 4th October 2008 has had to be postponed. The second date of 14th February has also had to be postponed due to snow on the runway so now I'm going for third time lucky on Saturday 4th April, still at Swindon http://www.skydivezone.co.uk
Donating
I realise that there are a lot of requests for money for good causes but I urge you to donate as much as you can afford to this wonderful charity by visiting my fundraising page at http://Justgiving.com/rosemariebartlett By donating this way UK taxpayers can select Gift Aid which means the government gives an extra 28% for every £1 donated!! Don't forget you can still donate here even if you are not a UK taxpayer. Please feel free to pass this email on if you know someone else who would like to support me and more importantly, the children and families who really need it.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I shall be thinking of you all as I fall, well I might have a few other things dashing through my mind too!!
Ever thankful!
