Rose’s fundraiser for Prevent Breast Cancer · 29 November 2019 ·
My name is Rose and I am 10 years old. Three years ago both my aunt Polly and my godmother Jazz were diagnosed with breast cancer. I didn’t know much about cancer then and I was scared I would lose them. Seeing tata Polly (that’s how I call her) without hair was also a bit weird, but she did have fabulous headscarves, hats and wigs. Thankfully, both are now cancer free after going through chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery.
Tata Polly is doing a massive fundraiser for a charity called Prevent Breast Cancer and I’d like to help. I will be selling badges I have made with vintage kimono fabric over the next few months. I think it’s a good idea to support this charity because medical research into breast cancer now means a brighter future for my generation.
Here’s a summary of what they are doing:
« Predict. Prevent. Protect. You could call it our mantra. As the only UK charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, we’re committed to freeing the world from the disease altogether. Unlike many cancer charities, we’re focused on preventing, rather than curing. Promoting early diagnosis, screening and lifestyle changes, we believe we can stop the problem before it starts. And being situated at the only breast cancer prevention centre in the UK, we’re right at the front-line in the fight against the disease. »
