Endometriosis is a condition where cells similar to the ones in the lining of the womb grow elsewhere in the body. These cells react to the menstrual cycle each month and also bleed. However, there is no way for this blood to leave the body. This can cause inflammation, pain and the formation of scar tissue. In the UK, around 1.5 million women are living with the condition and currently, there is no cure. There are different treatments available for endometriosis which aim to reduce the severity of symptoms and improve the quality of life for someone living with it.

In July 2022, I was officially diagnosed with Stage 4 Endometriosis. This came after a long line of inconclusive blood tests, ultrasounds and being told I just have “painful periods”, but I was lucky enough to find a doctor who was able to diagnose my condition through a laparoscopic surgery (keyhole surgery). My road to recovery is a long and windy one but I’ve been blessed with an incredible health team and an unbelievable support system. 

Following on from my diagnosis, I researched endometriosis and was shocked at how little awareness there, especially when 1 in 10 women have it and most are not diagnosed for 4-11 years. Due to this, my family, friends and I have decided to take part in a 10k walk to raise money for Endometriosis UK who provide vital support services, raise awareness and support research for the women out there who are silently suffering. The walk will take place on Sunday 19th February 2023, so please donate, share or even join us on the day!!
