Story
On Thursday 19th October, I will be sleeping rough for the night in honour of staying put charity.
Supporting women is extremely important to me and having hearing about the charity through Elle M Palmer, I knew I wanted to participate.
The charity work to keep victims in their home, with the right support networks at hand. Staying put is so important for women who have been through mass trauma and have already lost such a large chunk of who they are and their surrounding.
Knowing first hand how much abuse can go unnoticed, this charity is really important to me.
What qualifies as abuse is still such a grey area and I think it’s important that we don’t close our eyes to the emotional and physical abuse which is happening in our communities.
At 19, I went to wales with a one way ticket to live on camp bed in a woman’s daughters bedroom (that I met online) because I was intoxicated by an emotional abuse situation.
At the time emotional abuse was so misunderstood, and receiving support was complicated.
I think it’s really easy to look at someone stuck in cycles of abuse and think they are choosing it.
But abuse is one of the hardest trauma cycles to break.
The confession of why I went to wales remained a lie and even till today, there are still conversations which have been brushed under the carpet in my own circle of support.
I would love for you to donate and provide first hand support for other women, in worse situations than I was.
