Great North Run Solo · 23 August 2020

FitzRoy transforms the lives of people with learning disabilities. The people we support are at the heart of everything we do. We work with them wherever they need us, at home or in the community, so we can help them find independence, support, and a voice about things that matter to them.

Story

I’ve taken on the Great North Run Solo challenge. I have to complete 40 runs between 28th June and 13th December (78 days) to finish the challenge.

The challenge started on 28th June (the birthday of the Great North Run) and runs until 13th September, the day the 40th Great North Run was scheduled to take place.

I’m missing being part of my work charity team at MacDonald Oates which this year would have been doing lots of events to raise money for Fitzroy. This challenge is just a small one, which a few of my work colleagues are doing too, which I hope will make a little difference. It is also making sure I get out and run 3-4 times a week, which helps put me in a positive frame of mind.

FitzRoy transforms lives every day by supporting people with learning disabilities to do the simple things that make a real difference to their everyday life. Our values guide us each step of the way and are as important now as when the charity first began. Our vision is a society where people are treated as equals, regardless of their disability. Our mission is to transform lives by supporting people with learning disabilities to lead the lives they choose.
