There’s a saying, ‘You don’t usually regret the things you’ve done, you’re  more likely to regret the things you haven’t.’ This was true for me, as I felt in terms of running achievements, my time had passed. So when the stars aligned and the opportunity arose I realised here was my chance to fulfil my secret dream of running a marathon.

To be honest I’m a bit trepidatious  - but when has fear stopped me?  I’m also excited, motivated & on track with my training schedule. I started running again last year, around 8-10 miles a week and immediately noticed the benefit to my wellbeing. All this followed by renewed  confidence & the question, could I run greater distances?

When Devon Rape Crisis & Sexual Abuse Services were allocated places in the 2021 Virtual London Marathon,  I couldn’t  resist signing up to the challenge? To run the London Marathon for the charity that I support as a volunteer,  is a privilege and motivation in itself. 

The last year has been tough for all of us, but particularly so for people who are suffering from the effects of trauma. Devon Rape Crisis wants to be in the strongest position possible to carry on supporting those who have been affected by sexual violence, to reach more people who need us and to expand our vital prevention and education work. 

Every pound you donate will help us maintain and develop services right across Devon and Torbay for anyone over the age of 13 who has suffered the trauma of sexual violence at any time in their lives, and those who support them.
