CITY IN THE COMMUNITY IS MANCHESTER CITY’S OFFICIAL CHARITY. WE SUPPORT YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS GREATER MANCHESTER, BY EMPOWERING HEALTHIER LIVES THROUGH FOOTBALL. OUR PROGRAMMES SUPPORT PHYSICAL AND MENTAL WELLBEING, WHILST CREATING HEALTHY FUTURES AND HEALTHY COMMUNITIES.

Story

We are taking part in a 260 mile bike ride from the Etihad Stadium in Manchester to the Amex Stadium in Brighton. We depart Manchester early in the morning of Friday 10th May, and will hopefully arrive in Brighton at lunchtime on the Sunday 12th in time for Man City's last match of the season against Brighton.

Although we hope to see City lift the Premier League trophy on the Sunday afternoon, much more importantly, we are hoping to have raised lots of money for the wonderful work that City in the Community does in Manchester and beyond.

City in the Community has been using football to create opportunities for children and young people in Manchester for over 30 years, playing a critical role in the key areas of Health, Education and Inclusion. In East Manchester, 25% of children are obese when entering primary school and 18.6% of pupils leave school with five A-C grade GCSEs. Involvement in CITC programmes measurably moves the dial for these young people – each year CITC ensures a significant increase in physical activity and healthy lifestyles for over 20,000 young people from age 2 upwards, as well as providing over 2,000 hours of free education and delivering over 750 qualifications for young people across the city. All CITC programmes are provided free to participants in schools and out in the wider community. CITC are still the only Premier League club to offer free soccer schools to hundreds children during the school holidays.

We are all fortunate in our own lives to understand the benefits of sport participation, healthy eating and a good education - many of the kids who are supported by CITC are less lucky, which is why the club’s community work is so important.

As a big advocates of women's sport, we are particularly proud of what City in the Community does for girls participation in sport within Manchester. Last season CITC delivered football programmes to almost 15,000 girls and women across Greater Manchester, increasing girls’ participation to 40% across their programmes overall.
