Bank of America Chicago Marathon 2014 · 12 October 2014 ·
Malignant melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer that takes far too many lives and is still very misunderstood. On the 12th October this year I will be running the Chicago Marathon in order to raise AWARENESS of this unforgiving disease. I am one of the lucky ones- in fact probably the luckiest person walking today, after being diagnosed with a large malignant melanoma in 1990 when I had so much surgery to my right leg to remove it, that I had to learn to walk again. Unbelievably I was given the all clear 5 years later! I've since been diagnosed with a further 3 malignant melanomas and despite lots of surgery, I am healthy and fit enough to run this marathon in order to show my appreciation for the wonderful life that I'm so lucky to lead. That's an outline of my story but sadly, there are many others whom have not been so lucky. One of them is the courageous and lovely Nick Boyes who I am very proud and honoured to run in memory of. Nick was a work colleague at BA and the wonderful, loving husband of Natalie Boyes, an amazing lady whose grief and loss has pushed her to the limits since Nick was sadly taken from her only last year at the young age of 45, after bravely fighting this horrific disease. Cancer is not only cruel to the patient but also to loved ones who go through so much trauma during such difficult times. Both Natalie and I would be SO grateful for any donations and awareness we manage to raise. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
