Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Next month I am hoping to climb Mera Peak in the Himalayas with 14 others. At 6,476m high, it requires no technical mountaineering experience thank goodness, but will take 15 days of high-altitude trekking (2 days on the mountain itself, 13 days on the round trip from Lukla).

I've been inspired to do this after meeting Ed Jackson, who is leading the group. After a career in rugby, Ed's life was completely changed 2 years ago when an accident left him paralysed from the neck down and unlikely to walk again.

With the help of Restart Rugby, intense rehab, great friends and his own sheer will and determination, Ed is making an amazing recovery, though at this stage still has to walk slowly (a bonus for me, as one of the older members of the group!)

His road to recovery has included setting up the M2M Group ('Millimetres to Mountains') in conjunction with the Neverest Orthopaedics Foundation, aiming to fund a new specialist spinal injuries unit in Chitwan, Nepal. The foundation's work has already funded a first-ever unit in Kathmandu. This will be only the second in Nepal if an overall target of £250,000 is reached.

For my part in completing the trek, I am aiming to raise £3,000. A little goes a long, long way in Nepal so any donation great or small would be much appreciated. Please feel free to share this story with friends and family.
