Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In July 2013 I will be going to Bolivia to work as part of the International Citizen Service scheme to help support their work with young and disabled people.
Who?
International Citizen Service is a global volunteering scheme. It young people like me (aged 18-25) an opportunity to support local charities in developing countries to do real development work that will make a difference for 3 months.
Why Bolivia?
Health in Bolivia is one of the lowest ranking countries in the western hemisphere. Over 1.3 million people with disabilities suffer from preventable diseases such as polio and german measles. Poor nutrition, and access to health care are major factors.
A lot of the existing issues can be targeted through awareness and education. I will be providing on-site support for local projects.
Why Me?
It surprises me how drastically we can tackle health inequalities by increasing awareness and improving on health education. I have worked in health care in a different contexts and want to take what I have learned and apply it in a global context.
Why Donate?
The money does not go towards my trip. The money will be used to make sure the scheme runs for the next year. This will help the charity set up longer term projects with these local partnerships. By doing this IS can help services grow stronger and provide better support to local people.
