Story

The 8th Battalion, The Hampshire Regiment,
Princess Beatrice's Isle of Wight Rifles
, known informally as the
"Isle of Wight Rifles" was formed to defend the Isle of Wight after a
19th-century invasion scare.

On 30
July 1915 the Isle of Wight Rifles sailed from Liverpool
, to join the fighting on the Gallipoli peninsula (in modern Turkey)

Nearly105 years later Members of the Isle of Wight’s local Army Cadet Force are carrying out a virtual trek from the Isle of Wight to Gallipoli to remember those soldiers who fought bravely in Gallipoli, and to raise money for the Mountbatten Hospice.

The
Army Cadet Force is a national youth organisation
sponsored by the MOD and British Army.

The distance the team is attempting by any means, is 1945 miles.
