Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my ROW4RACM JustGiving page.
I decided to try and raise funds and awareness for the Russian Arctic Convoy Museum in memory of brave people like my Grandad George Leonard who served on the convoys during WW2.
The plan is to row the equivalent distance (on a concept 2 rowing machine) of Liverpool to Loch Ewe (Aultbea) -The first part of the Arctic Convoy Route
Distance approx *300 miles as the crow flys. (courtesy of google maps)
I will be starting the challenge on Monday 30th July 2012 and aim to complete the 300 Miles by Saturday 4th May 2013 to coincide with the Arctic Convoy Week in Aultbea and my 50th birthday. Update to schedule; I'm honoured to announce I will now be completing my challenge at Aultbea on 10th May in front of Arctic Convoy Veterans.
*As I've discovered the rowing machine doesn't record in Miles, I have converted the distance into meteres.
300 miles = 483Kilometers / 483.000 Metres (rounded up) it sounds further if you do it in Metres :-)
This works out as rowing approx 33 Miles (52.000 Metres) a month or 8 miles (13.000 Metres) a week.
Anybody who knows me will realise that although I wont be subjected to the kind of conditions and elements that the veterans were, including people trying to kill me, this still amounts to a serious physical challenge for an aging overweight couch potato!
You are invited to sponsor me either as a one off total or amount per mile.
My initial aim is to raise £1 for every mile = £300
Though it would be great to raise £1 for every metre! ;-)
You can donate on line or text RACM50 and your amount to 70070
