As work colleagues, we wanted to raise money for a cause close to us. As you will know one of Michael's sons, Kieran, has Down's Syndrome and benefits from the support of Downright Excellent, a local charity based in Moorgate. Downright Excellent aims to help children with Downs Syndrome in London to develop their life skills so they may reach their full potential as individuals and as equally participating members of society through
- educational programmes
- quality play
- education and support for parents and carers
- education and support for siblings
Therefore on 17th June 2011 (and against medical advice for some of the team), we will be walking 10 miles from our office in Canary Wharf to our offices in the West End.
The support Downright Excellent provides makes such a difference to people who can feel in a very challenging situation. In addition to providing weekly educational sessions for the children, they also facilitate a forum for families to meet, support each other and share ideas. All the funds raised are going to the charity and the money we raise will be used to purchase the latest educational tools, equipment and techniques for the children.
As a local charity funding is always an issue and therefore your support is hugely appreciated.
“This is a staggering amount and will be transformative in what we at DEx will be able to provide for our children with our Speech & Language Therapy sessions”
Debbie Allen, Downright Excellent Trustee, 21st May 2011.
