The Grace Crocker Family Support Foundation was set up in January 2011, in memory of Grace Crocker, who grew her angel wings aged 11 weeks. Grace was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (A congenital heart disorder in which the left side of the heart, particularly the left ventricle, is underdeveloped. The first part of the aorta may also be abnormal. Affected babies usually develop severe heart failure within the first few days of life), and had open-heart surgery when she was just 5 days old. Her family lived in Jersey, and so they had to move to Southampton for three months whilst Grace recovered from her surgery, including her brother and sister as well as her mum and dad. She met lots of friends and family when she was allowed back home to Jersey, and in the month that she was home, she touched so many people’s lives. As a result of our own experience, we set up this charity with the support of friends and family, with the aim to help other families from Jersey who need to spend time in the UK whilst their child receives medical treatment in a hospital. It is worrying enough when your child is sick, without being faced with additional financial worries, and so we would love to help families in some way, by providing them with some financial assistance and emotional support too.

The challenge is simple, a team of at least 13 of us rowing (using ergos) the circumference of Jersey (77km) in one day (23rd October).

You can take part in our challenge from anywhere, all you need is:

  • To be free on the 23rd October- For at least 30 minutes and ready to row.
  • Access to a rowing machine- You can use your own, go to the gym or join us at one of our venues in Jersey.
  •  Able to send a video/picture in to us confirming the distance you have rowed- This is so we can say hello and record our cumulative distance throughout the day.
  • Ability to row 6km in your 30 minute slot- This isnt over strenuous, but requires some conditioning.
  • A starting donation of £20 from yourself- with the aim to raise at least another £80 from sponsors.

We are looking for more team, if you want to join, just get in touch with Tim (tim.keenan@stmatthews.je), we'd love to have you on the team.

We will live stream the final 30 minutes to confirm the final distance rowed and amount raised. In the event we have over 13 rowers we will see just how far we can go and how much money we can raise!

Our Story

On October 28th we will celebrate the 3rd Birthday of our son Ramiel Asher Justice Keenan- 'Remi'. Remi was full of life and energy, adored by us and his brothers, he was a constant source of joy and love to everyone who met him. What's remarkable is that he was like this despite the daily challenges of seizures and all the complications they brought. Through this time our family was supported by so many family, friends, professionals and charities one of which was The Grace Crocker Family Support Foundation. On a number of occasions, a seizure would see Remi airlifted to Southampton Hospital, at these times, The Grace Crocker Family Support Foundation were so willing and ready to help, covering the extra costs it took for the whole family to go to Southampton together.

Remi passed on to heaven just 5 weeks after his second Birthday, the hole he has left in our lives is colossal, but his joyful legacy is even greater. As family and friends, we wanted to mark our special boy's Birthday by making a difference in his memory, our prayer is that his life would continue to impact us all and so many others for years to come.

The challenge is simple, a team of at least 13 of us rowing (using ergos) the circumference of jersey (77km) in one evening. Every single penny raised goes straight to The Grace Crocker Family Support Foundation to fund their continued work in supporting families, so give generously!
