Our Beloved Donna Valley passed away on September 9, 2021.The YMCA Family was her extended family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to The Woodlands Family YMCA, in memory of Donna Valley and her service to the YMCA for 25+ years.
Per Doug Earle: "In January of 1982, the South Montgomery County YMCA was moving from a trailer office on Sawdust Road to what used to be a mattress store on the feeder road of I-45, just south of Shenandoah. We needed a full-time person to run the office. I put out the word and had about thirty applicants. Being young and "not so smart", I thought I had to interview all of them. Donna Valley was my first interview and I knew she was the right person right away. However, I painfully went through with the other 29 interviews. Then, I called Donna and offered her the position. That was the start of her YMCA career. In 1986, when we built the facility on Shadowbend, we needed someone to handle memberships, so Donna added those responsibilities to her list. I told her to sign up as many members as she could and never let anyone quit. Donna was the matriarch to our mostly younger YMCA staff. She was loved by staff and members alike. Her jovial nature provided a nurturing work environment and the members appreciated her caring attitude. She "threatened" to start working out and I think we got her to walk on the treadmill. Donna was the glue for our YMCA. Hiring Donna Valley was one of the best decisions in my career. She touched the lives of thousands of people in a positive way. She was loved by all."
