Samworth Challenge · 11 June 2022
On Saturday The 11th June 2022 we will be entering two teams of four into the gruelling Samworth Brothers, Charity Challenge. This adventure race of Kayaking, Cycling, and a navigation run through rugged terrain will be a painstaking 9 hour endurance event pushing each person to their limits!!
We are proud to support the Believe and Achieve trust because of the outstanding work they do for helping children with disabilities take part in sports in Greater Manchester. One of our Team Members also had a personal friendship with Alex Williams who the charity was setup in memory of.
The believe and Achieve trust strives to improve the physical and mental health of children and young people in Greater Manchester who are facing challenges because of meningitis, disability or their personal situation.
The charity provides direct help through support of Grants to children and young people to allow them to have access to specialist aids and equipment, or to take part in an activity of their choice - All with the aim of improving their quality of life.
Our name reflects our goal of encouraging children and young people to believe that they can do something, and supporting them to achieve it!
Alex Williams was a very friendly, caring and popular person and was well known for doing fantastic work such as volunteering and raising money for other charities in his local area.
The first thing I remember about meeting Alex was how happy and upbeat he was and what a great outlook he had on life. This was amazing considering the challenges he had faced through illness. His charitable work included volunteering and raising awareness for meningitis which he was highly recognised for by the Greater Manchester community and beyond. One of his main highlights was carrying the Olympic torch through his home town.
Sadly in 2012 Alex passed away. Alex's Mum Alison then courageously carried on his dream of all people being equal and having the same opportunities' in sport by setting up the Believe and Achieve Trust in his memory.
Alison and her family continue to do fantastic work and have a clear passion for what they do. Here are a few words from Alison....
In August 2012, Alex had a stroke as a direct result of the after effects of meningitis and passed away. Our devastation made us realise the only way forward was to carry on his work, raising awareness of meningitis and support other young people like Alex whose lives have been affected by this disease or who were coping with challenges in their lives.
The Believe and Achieve Trust was born in 2014 and, with Alex as our inspiration and your help, we continue to make a difference to peoples lives.
