Story
Ruth Johnson was an amazing Lady, she combined many aspects to her life as a mother, wife, teacher, carer and fund raiser. I am using her death as the inspiration to get off the sofa and run the half marathon.
For many years Ruth taught RE @ #Highdown and Alfred Sutton, taking the time to give her students extra help and support.
She raised thousands for the Salvation Army by door collecting throughout Caversham.
She enjoyed helping people and ran a club for retired people and was always happy to visit and help wherever she saw a need.
Ruth battled cancer for many years and it finally took her from us in April last year, always being strong and positive to the end.
So I am Ruths' youngest son Phil, I am Reading born and bred, growing up in Caversham, attending Caversham Primary and then Highdown school.
I have never been fit and always a little over weight although I enjoy watching sport and have coached kids football for 9 years. Running is not an enjoyable experience but one I have pushed myself into to help others like my mum, just for this one event.
I have been a life long #Readingfc supporter and 15 years ago I became the Reading Drummer, so many people have heard me at Reading home matches and my know me by sight.
I run a local company supplying photocopiers called #archway and we like to support local the local community, sponsoring a football team Caversham afc and others.
Please take the time to support Cancer so we can look at beating this terrible disease.
