Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
Update; 02 Oct 09:
A huge thank you and a massive congratulations to everyone involved in our event from the wives and soldiers to the childcare girls and fund raising helpers. Additionally, to everyone who has donated and encouraged others to donate we could not have reached our target without you. It has been a long and demanding challenge but seeing our target smashed by a further £5k is extremely humbling. The final push came last week and fortunately coincided with the tv programme 'wounded'. The response from the public in both Wrexham and Chester was amazing and in just over 3 hours the public in Chester had donated a massive £6k. This sort of response to such programmes truly shows the support of the nation and assures us that what we do is suppported by the people we ultimately protect. We will now proportion all the money raised to our chosen charities with a view to present them with their cheques on the 19 Oct 09 allowing them to continue to do their superb work for our service men and women and the terminally ill of Wales and Cheshire. Thank you.
Update; 12 Aug 09:
Congratulations to all the girls for their tremendous efforts and, with an official time of 29hours 08minutes and 59 seconds they have successfully completed the National 3 Peaks Challenge in under their 30hour target. I will post some pictures of them soon but thank you to everyone for your support. We now have only until the 30 Sep 09 to raise the remainder of the money to reach our fundraising target of £15,000 so thank you for your donation and also for your support.
Update; 08 Aug 09:
With just 24hours before we depart up to Scotland for an overnight stay before we begin, it is clear to see that the majority if not all the girls are nervous. The weather is looking 'ok' and the girls have done very well to have sustained 3 months of training with the juggling of childcare, work and absent husbands to contend with. May we say a big thank you to all those who have donated on and offline and thank you also for the kind words. The next 72 hours will put these girls through pain worst than child birth and i am sure they will all come out at the end having achieved an enormous individual and collective goal. Thank you for all your support so far.
Our Unit, 1 Royal Welsh will be departing on operations to Afghanistan later this year. This will be a testing time for the families who are left behind and to mitigate the long drawn out period of training and preparation their husbands will have to undergo throughout this year, they have come together as a community and have set themselves an individual and collective goal... to complete the National 3 Peaks Challenge in 30hours. In addition, some of the soldiers of 1 Royal Welsh will attempt to complete the same challenge in less than 24hours.
Whilst the aim is to draw closer the Royal Welsh Family in preparation for the future deployment on operations of their husbands and fathers, a key objective of the event is to raise as much money for several charities; and to do this collectively as a regimental family too. This is an extremely arduous challenge and suitable fitting for us to raise money to some extremely worthwhile and essential charities.
Listed below are our chosen charities and any donation online will go to that specific charity. If you wish to donate to the ABF then you can do this here at this site or alternatively visit the page of your chosen charity and donate as much or as little as you can. Alternatively, you may wish to spread your donation between the charities which may take a little longer but we all appreciate your time taken to do this and your generosity.
We are raising money for the following charities:
The Army Benevolent Fund - Our military charity and main benefactor.
Hope House and Ty Gobaith Childrens Hospices - For the children and families they support in North Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire.
Ty Hafan Childrens Hospice - For the children and families they support in South and mid Wales.
The Hospice of the Good Shephard - For the terminally ill from Chester and Cheshire they support.
