English Half Marathon 2019 · 13 September 2019 to 15 September 2019 ·

Creating Adventures was created to bring laughter, stimulation and enrichment to the lives of adults with Autism and learning disabilities. We do this through the provision of unique activities and new opportunities to improve their quality of life and offer them a sense of personal fulfilment.

Story

I was due to run the English Half Marathon in September so when it was cancelled at short notice I had to find another event!  Unfortunately it's not possible to change the event on my JustGiving page (and I already had donations) so apologies for the confusion.  I am running the Tatton Half Marathon on 3rd November.

Here's my story....

Just before Christmas I suffered a mild heart attack completely out of the blue. I'm someone who doesn't drink or smoke and I exercise regularly, so it was very hard to accept this as my new reality.

Sitting there on my hospital bed, wired up to machines that pinged and beeped whenever I moved, I made the decision that I wouldn't let the heart attack define my future. I felt that a good symbol of that would be to enter the next English Half Marathon (EHM). At the time of the heart attack I had not long run the 10k event at the EHM, so how difficult could it be to run twice the distance? Not a problem! I hadn't figured on how long it would take to recover, or on the drastic effects of the many medicines I am now required to take every day which exhaust me, slow me down and give me aching and weakened muscles. Training has been a tough physical and mental battle but every setback has just made me even more determined to make it through those golden gates and over the finish line on the 15th September.

I'm thrilled that my personal challenge can help a wonderful charity like Creating Adventures. Jenny's mission to do the right thing by the vulnerable people she cares for is awe inspiring. Please sponsor me to run the half marathon and help me use what I went through to create positive experiences for autistic adults in Trafford and Warrington.
