We are a registered charity dedicated to providing assistance dogs to help transform the lives of people with physical disabilities. Our dogs allow our clients to enjoy a greater independence and quality of life, and we strive to keep growing so that we can help more people across the UK.

Story

Our amazing dogs bring a greater independence and quality of life to their partners, offering security, companionship, and practical help with everyday household tasks. They are trained to help with everyday tasks such as opening and closing doors, unloading the washing machine, picking up dropped items, pressing buttons and switches and fetching help in an emergency. Our life-transforming dogs also provide psychological and social benefits including increased independence, confidence, social interaction and self-esteem.

Delia has changed my life a million times over.  Having a rare condition which renders me very often voiceless and completely unable to move, I am in constant pain and suffer severe and often violent tremors in my limbs.  First things in the morning I am often completely paralysed.  This is literal in that I cannot even open my eyes or mouth.  I need external stimulus to even begin to move.  Delia has been specifically trained to flip my arm repeatedly until the brain kicks in and I can slowly start to move. We never know how long this will last in the morning.  Often she has to pull/push my arms/legs to get them moving.  She helps me to get dressed, turns lights on and off, helps me to use the bathroom, helps make the bed, opens doors, retrieves items for me, can get help, puts washing in the washing machine and gets it out when finished (opening and closing the door|) placing the washing in a basket on wheels and pulling it to where it is needed. She does so much it is quite difficult to list.

We are going to attempt to do 20km over 5 and half days (starting at the beginning of July)  me in my powered wheelchair with Delia by my side.  Finishing by Delia having to find 10 balls hidden in  the garden, retrieving and placing in a bucket.  This will be a challenge for me as I never know how I am going to be on any given day - my pain levels can be so severe that it is extremely difficult to move.

Team Delia is trying to raise money to add to a puppy fund we have running - we need £5,000 in total and at present have in the region of £3,000.  This would mean a dog can be funded and trained specially by Canine Partners for another disabled person to benefit as I have - any help you can give would so much be appreciated.  Thank you for taking the time to read this ….
