Turning 30 this year gave me new motivation for a challenge. Could I really push myself to train for a marathon? I wanted to show focus, dedication and I knew that running drastically improves my own mental health.
As a midwife, I’m acutely aware of how mental ill health during pregnancy and post birth is
a major individual, family and public health issue. Treatable, and often preventable, mental illnesses are causing substantial suffering, disability and death of mothers, birthing people and jeopardising the future wellbeing and life of their children. Raising money for a leading charity like MIND will help, just a small bit, to improve services available to women and family in my care.
