Run 1,000km in 2019 · 19 December 2018

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

I just felt like runnin' - Forrest Gump

Some of you may know, but I took up running in 2018 and ran a few races.  I've also had the urge for a number of years now to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society back home in the UK after losing my Granddad to Dementia.  Then it hit me... why not run and raise money for this charity.

The Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

I had the aim to run 1,000km in 2019 (621 miles), but fell short at 870km by the end of the year. Now I'm continuing on with the goal of 1,600km (1,000 miles) in 2020, because why not, and if I can get to 2,020km, that would be something special too.

I will be running through out the year, in all seasons, and will only count outdoor running towards the goal (no treadmills, etc.).  This will include races (so far 15 planned), parkrun, and training.

If you want to track my progress throughout the year, check out my Strava page https://www.strava.com/athletes/david-hampson and keep up with the kms.

If you decide to help me and donate, thank you very much! Your donations are greatly appreciated.

Thank you

David
