Story
We are fundraising for Salisbury Hospice at Home by taking part in the South Coast Challenge, a 100km walk over 2 days along the challenging coastal path from Eastbourne to Arundel. We are doing this in memory of Darren Mark Beale who tragically lost his life to leukaemia on 8th April 2019 at just 33 years of age. A much loved son, brother, nephew, cousin and good friend to those of us taking part.
Darren was first diagnosed in September 2017, his life changed forever from that day on. He spent months in hospital with many sessions of chemo and radiotherapy followed by a stem cell transplant.
In September 2018 the leukaemia returned and he was told he had just months to live. Darren chose to stay at home where his family could care for him and his friends could visit. The disease gradually wore him down and when caring became difficult the Hospice at Home team stepped in. Without them it would have been impossible for Darren to remain at home. They gave invaluable care and support night and day.
The Hospice continues to support the family, we cannot praise them highly enough. Charitable donations are so important as the Hospice at Home service receives no NHS funding.
