Story
In recognition of the valuable work of PHA in supporting Paul, we are aiming to complete the Leeds Marathon, to raise valuable funds and awareness for the Charity. A gruelling and hilly marathon … so a challenging first marathon for three lads in their mid-40s! The course is here! 5-months of training and a few injuries to date … we’re determined to make it and complete the 26.2 miles. After all, it’s nothing compared to the courageous challenges Paul continues to battle!
Paul, aged 43, has pulmonary arterial hypertension (PH) – a
serious condition affecting the heart and lungs. Paul, ordinarily a fit lad and well-respected goalkeeper, was diagnosed with PH in September 2015 and is hoping the challenge will help raise awareness of the little-known condition, which affects just 7,000 people in the UK. Average life expectancy after diagnosis is less than 10-years, with no known cure. The money raised will go
to supporting valuable research. https://www.phauk.org/
Chairman of PHA, Iain Armstrong added: “We’re very grateful
to Mark and his friends for taking on this challenge and we wish them the best of luck. It’s vitally important that more people understand what life is like for people with pulmonary hypertension and events like this really help to get conversations going.”
We will also be supporting MND, with registration fees going
direct to the charity.
Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is rare, serious and misunderstood. It has a huge impact on people’s lives, and the PHA UK is dedicated to reducing that burden through support, advice, information and advocacy. They raise awareness and fund research to provide better treatments, with the hope of one day finding a cure for this devastating disease. The PHA UK receives no government funding, so every penny donated plays a vital role in helping them support people to live better lives with PH.
